Clade 1 Strain Case Reported in Thailand
On August 21, WEB Thailand reported a possible initial case of the novel, more severe strain of mpox, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Thailand's History of Mpox Cases
Thailand has experienced 827 mpox cases since January 2022, all of which have been the clade 2 variety.
No cases of the clade 1 strain have been identified in Thailand to date.
Thailand's Response to Clade 1 Suspicion
Thai authorities are treating the potential case as if it were clade 1 mpox.
This is due to the fact that the individual in question is a 66-year-old European male who arrived in Thailand on August 21.
