Hathurusinghe expects Das to lead the team with 'maturity and responsibility'

Bangladesh cricket team have a new captain. Head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has appointed Liton Das as the successor to Shakib Al Hasan.

Das, who has been Bangladesh's vice-captain since 2021, will now lead the team in all three formats of the game.

Hathurusinghe said he expects Das to lead the team with "maturity and responsibility".

"Liton has been a consistent performer for Bangladesh in recent years, and I am confident that he has the leadership qualities to take the team forward," Hathurusinghe said.

Das has played 79 Tests, 105 ODIs, and 54 T20Is for Bangladesh.

He has scored over 4,000 runs in Tests, 2,500 runs in ODIs, and 1,000 runs in T20Is.

Das has also captained Bangladesh in the past. He led the team to a 2-1 ODI series win over Zimbabwe in August 2022.

Hathurusinghe said he is confident that Das will be a successful captain.

"He is a role model for the younger players, and I am sure that he will be able to inspire the team to achieve great things," Hathurusinghe said.

Das will lead Bangladesh in their upcoming tour of India. The tour will start with a one-off Test match in Chattogram on December 14.
