Just three days after her final college game in the women's national championship game, Caitlin Clark received a special honor from her alma mater. The University of Iowa announced that her No. 22 jersey will be retired, a testament to her incredible accomplishments on and off the court.
The announcement was made by Iowa Athletic Director Beth Goetz, who praised Clark for her contributions to the university and the sport of basketball. "Caitlin Clark has been a remarkable ambassador for the University of Iowa and has left an indelible mark on our women's basketball program," Goetz said. Clark's jersey will join the exclusive list of retired numbers at Iowa, which includes other Hawkeye legends such as Luka Garza, Roy Marble, and Chuck Darling. The jersey retirement ceremony will take place during the 2023-24 season.
Clark, who hails from West Des Moines, Iowa, was a standout player for the Hawkeyes for four seasons. She set numerous school and Big Ten records during her career, including becoming the first player in NCAA Division I history to record 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 1,000 assists. She was also named the AP National Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023.
