Julian Assange Returns Home to Australia
Founder of WikiLeaks Receives a Hero's Welcome
After 14 Years of Legal Battles
Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, spent his first night as a free man in 14 years back home in Australia. Assange received a hero's welcome even before he set foot on his native soil.
Assange arrived in Australia aboard a charter jet hours after pleading guilty to a single espionage charge in front of a US judge. The Wikileaks founder's 14-year legal battle came to an end with his return to Australia.
Assange's family expressed their joy at his return, planning to celebrate with beer and champagne. Australia's parliament has also passed a motion calling on the US and UK to release Assange.
