Early Life and Education

George Robert Stephanopoulos was born on February 10, 1961, in Fall River, Massachusetts. His parents, Robert George Stephanopoulos and Nikki Goodwin, were both Greek immigrants. Stephanopoulos attended Columbia University, where he studied political science. He graduated magna cum laude in 1982.

Political Career

After graduating from Columbia, Stephanopoulos worked as a congressional aide for Congressman Ed Markey and Senator Paul Tsongas. In 1992, he joined the Clinton-Gore presidential campaign as a communications director. Stephanopoulos served as White House Communications Director from 1993 to 1996.

Journalism Career

After leaving the White House, Stephanopoulos joined ABC News as a political commentator. In 2009, he became the co-anchor of ABC's Good Morning America. Stephanopoulos also hosts the channel's Sunday morning political talk show, This Week.

Personal Life

Stephanopoulos is married to Ali Wentworth, an actress and comedian. They have two daughters together. Stephanopoulos is a practicing Greek Orthodox Christian.
