Motorcycle License and Lighting Requirements in Ontario
License Requirements
In Ontario, you need a motorcycle class of license to operate the following types of vehicles on public roads:
- Motorcycles
- Motor-driven cycles
- Motorized scooters
- Mopeds
Lighting Requirements
Motorcycles
Motorcycles require the following lighting:
- One white or amber light to the front
- One red light to the rear
It is an offence to operate a motorcycle without these lights.
Other Vehicles
For all vehicles other than motorcycles, the basic vehicle light requirements are defined under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
Vehicles without four-way flashers must have:
- Headlights
- Tail lights
- Stop lights
- Turn signals
Vehicles with four-way flashers must have:
- Headlights
- Tail lights
- Four-way flashers
It is an offence to operate a vehicle without the required lights.
Turn Signals
You do not need signals to operate a motorcycle in Ontario.
However, if your motorcycle or moped has four-way flashers, you must:
- Turn off your signals
- Turn on your four-way flashers
This will indicate that you are changing lanes or making a turn.
